Jamacha (pronounced: HAM-e-shaw) is a neighborhood in the District 4 area of San Diego, California.It is generally bounded by the city of Lemon Grove to the East, unincorporated La Presa to the South, Encanto to the North of Imperial Ave. (at Atkins Ave,), and both Skyline and Lomita to the West.
Rancho Jamacha was a 8,881-acre (35.94 km 2) Mexican land grant in present-day San Diego County, California, given in 1840 by Governor Juan Alvarado to Apolinaria Lorenzana. [1] Jamacha is an Indian name. The grant extended eastward from Rancho de la Nación along the Sweetwater River Valley.
State Route 54 (SR 54) is a state highway in the U.S. state of California that consists of two segments in San Diego County.The westernmost part of the highway is known as the South Bay Freeway, beginning at Interstate 5 (I-5) in National City and running along the Sweetwater River before ending at the intersection with SR 125 and Jamacha Boulevard near Spring Valley.
The route then shares the same alignment as State Route 54, from State Route 125 northeast to the El Cajon city limit, running along Jamacha Boulevard, Campo Road, and Jamacha Road. Within El Cajon, CR S17 shares the same alignment as the former State Route 54, continuing north to Interstate 8 along Jamacha Road and 2nd Street .
