Thane is one of the 36 districts in the Maharashtra state of India.The district is on the western coast and falls under the Konkan division of the state.. Until 1 August 2014 the district was divided into 15 talukas, viz. Thane, Kalyan, Murbad, Bhiwandi, Shahapur, Vasai, Ulhasnagar, Ambarnath, Dahanu, Palghar, Talasari, Jawhar, Mokhada, Vada, Boisar and Vikramgad.

Also, a temple of Shiv and Parmarth Niketan, a Hindu temple-cum meditation place are located in this area. The Dynanraj Sabhagruha Hall & the Dnyaneshwar Maharaj temple lies nearby. The area is popular for the renowned school of Thane, namely, S.E.S. High School and Junior College. It also has numerous outlets of food brands.
Until 31 July 2014, Thane was the country's most populous district with a population of over 1.2 crore. [3] On 1 August 2014, the talukas of Mokhada, Jawahar, Talasari, Vikramgadh, Wada, Dahanu, Palghar and Vasai were separated from the erstwhile Thane district to form a new district Palghar.
