The university was established by the Ras Al Khaimah Human Development Foundation (RAK – HDF) under the leadership of Saud bin Saqr al Qasimi, Crown Prince & Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah and Chancellor of the University. Provincial medical entrance exams included the MDCAT conducted by the University of Health Sciences, Lahore in Punjab and Balochistan before the NMDCAT. It was implemented in 1998 as the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) on the initiative of the then chief minister of Punjab Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif to counter replete cheating in HSSC exams at the time.

The People’s University of Medical and Health Sciences for Women (PUMHSW) (Sindhi: پيپلز يونيورسٽي آف ميڊيڪل اينڊ هيلٿ سائنسز فار وومين) is a public medical university located in Shaheed Benazirabad District , Sindh, Pakistan. It is the first women’s medical university in Sindh.
University of Karachi announced in September 2014 that it will establish its own medical college and a 100-bed hospital. The admission in the college for 100 students will be started in November 2014.
