A Tesla coil is an electrical resonant transformer circuit designed by inventor Nikola Tesla in 1891. [1] It is used to produce high-voltage, low-current, high-frequency alternating-current electricity. [2] [3] Tesla experimented with a number of different configurations consisting of two, or sometimes three, coupled resonant electric circuits.
English: Circuit diagram of a modern unipolar W:Tesla coil, a spark-excited resonant transformer circuit which produces high frequency high voltage alternating current at low current levels. It was invented by Serbian-American inventor Nikola Tesla in 1891.
The primary circuit is shown connected to the primary winding L1 with a variable tap, so that the primary and secondary coils can be adjusted to resonance. C2 is not an actual capacitor, but represents the capacitance of the secondary winding L2 plus the capacitance to ground of the toroidal electrode E.

Example receiver coil. The coil is loaded with a capacitor and two LEDs. The coil and the capacitor form a series LC circuit which is tuned to a resonant frequency that matches the transmission coil located inside of the brown mat. Power is transmitted over a distance of 13 inches (33 cm).
This equivalent circuit of part of a Tesla coil has stray capacitance between each winding and one to ground. Parasitic capacitance or stray capacitance is the unavoidable and usually unwanted capacitance that exists between the parts of an electronic component or circuit simply because of their proximity to each other.

Water capacitors were created mainly as a novelty item or for laboratory experimentation and can be made with simple materials. Water exhibits the quality of being self-healing; if there is an electrical breakdown through the water, it quickly returns to its original and undamaged state.
