In electrical circuits, ringing is an oscillation of a voltage or current.Ringing can be undesirable because it causes extra current to flow, thereby wasting energy and causing extra heating of the components; it can cause unwanted electromagnetic radiation to be emitted [citation needed]; it can increase settling time for the desired final state; and it may cause unwanted triggering of ...
Ringing is a telecommunication signal that causes a bell or other device to alert a telephone subscriber to an incoming telephone call. Historically, this entailed sending a high-voltage alternating current over the telephone line to a customer station which contained an electromagnetic bell.
The telephone exchange immediately removes the ringing signal from the line and connects the call. The ringing pattern is known as ring cadence, in which the high voltage ring current is switched on and off to create the pattern. In North America, the standard ring cadence is two seconds of ringing followed by four seconds of silence.
Ringing (signal), unwanted oscillation of a signal, leading to ringing artifacts; Vibration of a harmonic oscillator. Bell ringing; Ringing (telephony), the sound of a telephone bell; Ringing (medicine), a ringing sound in the ears
Here's exactly what that buzzing sound could be telling you.
The sinc function, the impulse response for an ideal low-pass filter, illustrating ringing for an impulse. The Gibbs phenomenon, illustrating ringing for a step function.. By definition, ringing occurs when a non-oscillating input yields an oscillating output: formally, when an input signal which is monotonic on an interval has output response which is not monotonic.
Ringback, the ringing signal in telephony used to recall an operator or customer Ringing tone , also ringback tone, the audible ringing that is heard by the calling party after dialing Ringback number , a number used by phone companies to test whether a telephone line and phone number is working
More selective ringing methods were introduced using various technologies. In the system of divided ringing, the ringing circuit was separated from the talking circuit by adding a ground connection between the central office and the subscriber stations for ringing. On the same subscriber line, one party used the tip side of the line and ground ...
