Peel Council was formed in 1973 when the Regional Municipality of Peel was created to replace the old Peel County. It was created by the province to deal with counties with significant growth patterns. It is supposed to mimic the role of the former Metro Toronto Council.

Nishan Duraiappah OOnt (born September 4, 1973) is a Canadian police officer who is the current Chief of Police with the Peel Regional Police, which serves the cities of Brampton and Mississauga with over 1.6 million residents. The band continues to exist thanks to the ongoing support of the Peel Regional Police and Chief Nishan Duraiappah. Each year the band participates in a number of events on behalf of the Peel Regional Police which include: Ontario Police Memorial at Queens Park and the National Peace Officer’s Memorial on Parliament Hill in Ottawa.
