The chief signatory were Director of King's College Narottam Aryal and Nobel Prize Winner Muhammad Yunus. King Edward Medical College was established in 1860 as the Lahore Medical College. It is the fifth oldest medical school in South Asia , after Medical College Kolkata (January 28, 1835), Madras Medical College , Chennai (February 2, 1835) Grant Medical College , Bombay (1845) and Sarojini Naidu Medical College Agra (1854).
The inception of this university was soon followed by Kathmandu University in 1990, and Purbanchal and Pokhara Universities in 1995 and 1996, respectively. Many schools and colleges are run privately but none of the universities in Nepal are private. This list includes all notable universities in Nepal.
In December 1833 the college's council established a committee to organise the disparate courses offered at King's. As a result of this committee's report, the AKC was established by the college's council on 14 February 1834 as a three-year general course based on a core of divinity, mathematics, classics and English, with other options added in the second and third years.
Tri-Chandra Multipurpose Campus (Nepali: त्रि-चन्द्र बहुमुखी क्याम्पस) is a constituent campus of Tribhuvan University located in Ghantaghar, Kathmandu. Founded in 1918 by Chandra Shumsher, it is the oldest institute of higher learning in Nepal.
