The following table can be used to date the year of manufacture of a Marlin 336. It is also valid for determining most other Marlin firearm build dates from 1946 to the present. Marlin year of manufacture maybe determined from the following table of letter/numeral prefixs to the serial number: Date Prefix (s) 1946 C.
Marlin made a 336 in both calibers in the 1963, not a short amount of time ago. The 30-30 has a range advantage. Close in, the 44 can shoot a heavier bullet. Out west .30-30 ruled the roost, the 44 was for close in eastern brush deer. .45/70 and .444 wasn't selling like hotcakes and Marlin offered a alternative.
Yes. But I don’t. I do have the Guide Gun in 45-70. Now that I have the Ruger American Predator in 350 Legend, I filled the 30-30 niche.
The hunting round for a few dollars more. The Max has a tad more power but the Legend has better accuracy and balistically. it is more powerful than a 30-30 with less recoil and more accuracy. Hey all, My birthday is coming up this fall, and seeing as how I'll be deployed/underway for it AND Christmas, my girl is offering to buy me a new rifle as a combined gift. (she's a keeper) She knows I needed a hunting rifle, she DOESN'T know that I went out and bought a .30-06...
The new Marlin slogan "Long Live the Lever Gun" says is all. Lever guns first and foremost is what Ruger bought Marlin for. If you look at the market Henry is making a killing on traditional lever guns in a market that used to be dominated by Marlin. Ruger is looking to regain market share...
Not many "Guns" (plural) for $1000 that I'd want....most of the good stuff costs a bit more. Well then by all means don't play our little ghetto game -...
