Gold Coast Airport (formerly known as Coolangatta Airport [4]) (IATA: OOL, ICAO: YBCG) is a domestic and international Australian airport located at the southern end of the Gold Coast and approximately 90 km (56 mi) south of Brisbane, within the South East Queensland agglomeration.
It passes through the numerous popular tourist areas including Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach, a commercial centre at Southport, residential areas, shopping centres and the Gold Coast (Coolangatta) Airport. The Surfers Paradise Transit Centre is the main coach station on the Gold Coast. It is served by long distance coach services to Brisbane, Byron Bay, Coffs Harbour, Lismore, Casino and Sydney operated by Greyhound Australia, NSW TrainLink and Premier Motor Service. [1] [2] [3]
One station is located in Helensvale, two are in Parkwood, seven are in Southport, one is in Main Beach, six are in Surfers Paradise, and two are in Broadbeach. All but one of the stations is street-level open-air structures with passenger canopies on the platforms.
Beginning at Helensvale station, the line was extended to the former terminus at Gold Coast University Hospital, and now continues via the previously built line to Southport, Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach. The extension was opened in December 2017 in time for the 2018 Commonwealth Games. [11]
