[5] It lies on the southeast tip of Lake Chelan, where the lake flows into the Chelan River. Chelan is part of the Wenatchee−East Wenatchee Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Access to points along the lake has been primarily by water, and in the early 1900s, this was done by steamboat.
