During World War II the first flight nurses uniform consisted of a blue wool battle dress jacket, blue wool trousers and a blue wool men's style maroon piped garrison cap. After his death in 1937, the award was renamed in Dr. Hornaday's honor and became a Boy Scouts of America award.
