The line was closed on 27 May 1968 and has since been lifted. Sutton-in-Ashfield Town station has been demolished, however until a fire in 2008, one of the last surviving parts of the former station. The station master's house had been occupied but a fire in 2008 destroyed the roof and the building has been fenced off.

Sutton-in-Ashfield railway station, sometimes referred to as "Sutton Town" or "Sutton-in-Ashfield General", was a dead-end station on a short branch line from Sutton Junction in Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, England. Located off Station Road and opened in 1893, it offered a service with arrival much closer to Sutton-in-Ashfield town centre.
The station was opened by the Mansfield Railway along with Mansfield Central and Kirkby-in-Ashfield Central stations in 1917. The line and its stations were worked by the Great Central Railway and became part of the LNER in 1923 and subsequently British Railways in 1948. The station was conventional and spacious. [3] [4]
