Ultima Online (UO) is a fantasy massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) released on September 24, 1997 [1] by Origin Systems. Set in the Ultima universe, it is known for its extensive player versus player combat system. Since its release, it has added eight expansion packs, a booster pack, and dozens of free content updates.
The expansion added several features to the game, including a new region called the Lost Lands, new creatures, and support for player-built cities. The Second Age was developed by Origin Systems and published by Electronic Arts in 1998. [3] It was the last Ultima Online expansion designed by Raph Koster. [citation needed]
[citation needed] A further, more serious criticism, was that the new item system broke Ultima Online's long-standing tradition of being skill-based in favor of an item-based system. [citation needed] This was exacerbated by the fact that the expansion's release roughly coincided in time with an increase in the subscription fee. [citation needed]
