Toone is located in northern Hardeman County at (35.352311, -88.953801 Tennessee State Route 138 (SR 138) is Main Street, leading northwest 21 miles (34 km) to Interstate 40 (I-40) between Jackson and Brownsville, and southeast 2 miles (3 km) to its terminus at SR 18.
Hardeman County was created by the Tennessee General Assembly in 1823 from parts of Hardin County and "Indian lands." It is named for Thomas J. Hardeman [4] (1788-1854), a veteran of the Creek War and the War of 1812 and a prominent figure in the fight for Texas independence.
SR 138 begins in Hardeman County at an intersection with SR 18. It goes northwest through wooded areas to enter Toone, where it passes through town along Main Street before having an intersection with SR 100. [1] The highway then leaves Toone and continues northwest through mostly wooded areas to cross into Madison County. [2]

SR 100 begins as a primary highway in West Tennessee in Hardeman County at an intersection with US 64/SR 15 in Whiteville. Then SR 100 leaves Whiteville heading east but slightly northward before crossing the Hatchie River. SR 100 then has an intersection with SR 138 just north of Toone.
