The kids are all excited over it. At the diner, Bob, Linda, Mort, and Teddy play a game Bob invented, "Narts" (Napkin Darts), and Bob finds himself frustrated over continually losing to Linda. Linda briefly interrupts the story not wanting Gayle to be married off to Bob. The night of the ball arrives and everyone from the town is there, Bob and Gayle dance all evening but Linda appears as Sir Bob’s loud, rude, American wife-to-be that he is only marrying for money. This causes Gayle to fall deathly ill with pooping cough.
Curious about Linda's job, but at the same time not wanting to ask her, Bob keeps asking the kids about their mother, but sees that Linda deeply enjoys her work. Linda comes home one night, saying that she got high scores in her evaluation. Bob, in an effort to get her back to the restaurant, "evaluates" her as well but the couple ends up fighting.
