List of prisons in the United Kingdom is a list of all 141 current prisons as of 2024 in the United Kingdom spread across the three UK legal systems of England and Wales (122 prisons), Scotland, (15 prisons) and Northern Ireland (4 prisons). Also included are a number of historical prisons no longer in current use.
This was reversed in the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, but prison officers were still denied the right to take industrial action. This right was restored in March 2005 to prison officers in the public sector in England, Wales and Scotland, [a] but not in Northern Ireland or to prison custody officers in the private sector.
Following the restructure of NOMS in 2008, prison area managers and ROMS were merged into one office working to a new post, the director of offender management (DOM) in each region. [1] The two areas that piloted this (Wales and London) no longer have a ROM at all, instead the workload has been directly transferred to the new DOM.

His Majesty's Prison and Probation Service is an executive agency of the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) responsible for the correctional services in England and Wales.It was created in 2004 as the National Offender Management Service (NOMS) by combining parts of both of the headquarters of the National Probation Service and His Majesty's Prison Service with some existing Home Office functions.

Community Rehabilitation Company (CRC) was the term given to a private-sector supplier of Probation and Prison-based rehabilitative services for offenders in England and Wales. A number of CRCs were established in 2015 as part of the Ministry of Justice's (MoJ) Transforming Rehabilitation (TR) strategy for the reform of offender rehabilitation.
