It was then mentioned to me that low dose Valium has been known to help. I was on 2mg 2x/day for a short period of time. That did seem to help me. I haven't been on it for quite a few months now and when the vertigo decides to wreck havoc, there are some vestibular exercises my neuro-oncologist gave me that seems to help.
I was diagnosed with a .5 cm AN in my IAC in March 2012 and had most of the symptoms people present with, including dizziness, vertigo, and balance impairment. Since the tumor is small and my hearing loss was already measured as moderate to profound, I elected to "watch and wait." Since May of this year, I have had 3 severe episodes of vertigo.

The frequency was every 5-8 days. It wasn't until they found the little buggar and removed it that vertigo stopped, but that took another year after my operation. I would try to go on a diuretic to get as much fluid out of your inner ears as possible. I was prescribed Meclizine - it does work, but I had complications with it.
That stopped the vomiting but not the vertigo whenever I moved my head. Then my neurosurgeon called to check and wanted to try a steroid taper. I started 1 tablet (2mg) Dexamethasone 3 times a day on the afternoon of 9/21. The extreme vertigo has lightened unless I try focusing a distance.

Generally 2 meclizine and lying down for 2-6 hrs and it abates. This Tues at work out of nowhere dizziness turned into vertigo, I was vomiting violently and I'm off work until Weds. Dr. diagnosed vestibular neuritis. In addition to vestibular suppressants (valium, meclizine) started me on a medrol dose pack and antiviral at my request.
He reviewed my entire case and started me on a over the counter Meclizine 25 MG 3 times a day for Vertigo. In addition, he recommended I start taking Ginger as it has helped his wife greatly with her Vertigo. Both have helped and the severe Vertigo is manageable.
