Jul 24, 2017. #1. While recently cleaning out a relatives estate, I came across 8 bright shiny 1 lb. tins of Hodgdon 870 in their original shipping box. I don't know what year it was shipped (I'm guessing 30-years ago) but it has been stored in a dry compartment of relatively stable temperature and low humidity ever since.
Ramshot / Accurate ball powder comes from PB Clermont in Belgium. Hodgdon extruded grades and IMR-8208 XBR from Thales / ADI in Mulwala, NSW, Australia. Other than 8208 XBR, IMR extruded rifle powders are also made by a General Dynamics Corp owned plant in Valleyfield, Ontario, Canada.
Aug 4, 2010. #13. Re: Hodgdon Varget vs. H322 for best accuracy in .223. A lot will have to do with your twist rate more than those two powders. The 55 gr Vmax will be fine at 100 yards with the 1:9 twist but past that the groups will open up; the 69 gr SMK will work better at longer range past 300y. Varget works great at being temperature ...
Feb 21, 2013. 14. 0. Colorado. Jul 2, 2013. #2. I began testing Hodgdon Superformance Powder in my 260 this past weekend. This is a custom build using a 26" Bartlein 5R 8.5 barrel. So far I’ve only done pressure testing with 123 SMKs and Lapua 139s.
7mmRM, 180 Berger Hybrids, 70.0gr Retumbo, 3.500" OAL (0.005" off lands), Fed210M primers, Norma brass, at 2925fps. (This is very much outside published book specs, in a few ways) Good groups, low ES/SD on velocity. 160-162gr bullets seem to like 215M primers, H1000, and loading to more conventional overall length.
Nov 30, 2009. #4. Re: Which Hodgdon powder = Win Supreme 780? 780 was developed for the WSMs and SAUMs. It is "close" to 4831SC (not interchangeable weight for weight) I use it in WSMs and SAUMs because it's dense but find no advantage in larger cases over 4831 EXCEPT that it goes through a measure +-1/10th.
Re: Help with h5010 powder. An update on h5010 powder. I called Hodgdon and they told me it was manufactured for the military to be used basically in the 50cal. It is a very slow burning powder and it was last manufactured probably 25 years ago or longer. They also said it could have been produced during WWII or Korea.
However the number of suitable cartridges and bullet weights are pretty limited with this powder. Other than the 300WSM I don't think you'll find much or any data for the other cartridges you listed. Hodgdon's website is the only real source for data that I know of. I consider Superformance a niche powder that works well in very limited ...
Hodgdon owns the rights to sell IMR, Winchester and Hodgdon branded powders in the United states. The IMR powders are sourced through the Canadian plant. Look at most of the IMR powder labels. Most of them will say "Made in Canada" I believe the only powder they manufacture are the Pyrodex powders. As said earlier, 8208XBR is an Australian ADI ...
Re: Hodgdon 4350 vs. IMR 4350. Yes. The H4350 is a temp insenstive powder. From winter time to summer time, you will notice a velocity/pressure change in your load with some of the IMR powders. I love the IMR powders, especially IMR4350. But a hot/fast load developed in the winter time will be a HOT load in the summer time.
