Civil service examinations are examinations implemented in various countries for recruitment and admission to the civil service. They are intended as a method to achieve an effective, rational public administration on a merit system for recruiting prospective politicians and public sector employees.
The Federal Public Service Commission became the Union Public Service Commission after independence. It was given a constitutional status under the Constitution of India on 26 January 1950. [9] [7] In 1947, the then deputy prime minister Vallabhbhai Patel called the recruits as the "steel frame of India".
The personality test is an interview which assesses the candidate's suitability for a career in public service by a board of unbiased observers. The interview also assess social traits and interest in current affairs.
