Located at the intersection of Jefferson Street SE and Williamson Road, the Virginian Station served as a passenger station for the Virginian Railway between 1910 and 1956. The Chatham Southern Railway Depot is a historic train station at 340 Whitehead Street in Chatham, Virginia.. Built in 1918-19 by the Southern Railway, it was a major hub of the city's economic activity until passenger service was discontinued in 1965, and freight service in 1975.
The Passenger Station was converted into offices when passenger service ended in the city in 1971, and was vacant from 1992 until being purchased by the Center in the Square foundation in 2000. [7] As of 2023 it houses the city's visitor center, the Historical Society of Western Virginia, and the O. Winston Link Museum. [8]
