Smegma (from Ancient Greek σμῆγμα, smêgma, 'soap') [1] is a combination of shed skin cells, skin oils, and moisture. It occurs in both male and female mammalian genitalia . In females, it collects around the clitoris and in the folds of the labia minora ; in males, smegma collects under the foreskin .
Mammalian pheromones can elicit both long-lasting effects that alter the hormone levels of the recipient animal, and short-term effects on its behavior. [78] For example, detection of male pheromones by female mice has been found to encourage onset of puberty, however the detection of female pheromones have been found to delay the onset of puberty.

The labia minora (Latin for 'smaller lips', sg.: labium minus), also known as the inner labia, inner lips, or nymphae, [1] are two flaps of skin that are part of the primate vulva, extending outwards from the inner vaginal and urethral openings to encompass the vestibule. [2]
In female humans and other mammals, [1] the clitoral hood (also called preputium clitoridis, clitoral prepuce, and clitoral foreskin) [2] is a fold of skin that surrounds and protects the glans of the clitoris; it also covers the external clitoral shaft, develops as part of the labia minora and is homologous with the foreskin (also called the prepuce) in the male reproductive system.
Doctors would either remove the smegma surrounding the clitoris, lacerate adhesions restricting the clitoris, or remove the clitoral hood altogether (female circumcision). [4] In the most extreme cases, doctors would perform a clitoridectomy, removing the clitoris entirely. [4] Reflex neurosis was a common diagnosis in the 19th century. [4]
