In 1908, the New York State Legislature created Route 7, an unsigned legislative route extending from Binghamton to Albany via Oneonta, and Schoharie.In western Albany County, Route 7 utilized what is now NY 443 from the Schoharie County line to East Berne, where it turned north to follow Thatcher Park Road (now NY 910J and NY 157A) to Thompson's Lake.

The park is the location of "Zoo New York", a zoo located North-West of the Parks entrance. It was founded in 1920, [11] and contains animals mostly native to Northern New York, with a Roosevelt Elk, a Bobcat, a Golden Eagle, a Canada Lynx, a Mountain Lion, a Snowy Owl, a Bald Eagle, Black Bears, Otters, etc. [12] The Zoo also features a playground, which was unveiled on October 3, 2019.
