Nathaniel Joseph Ruess (pronounced / r uː s / ROOSS; [2] born February 26, 1982) [3] is an American singer and songwriter. He formed the indie pop band The Format in 2002, and later went on to form the band fun. in 2008.

The band consists of Jack Antonoff (of Steel Train), Andrew Dost (of Anathallo), and Nate Ruess (of the Format). [6] Fun formed in 2008, and their debut studio album, Aim and Ignite, was released in 2009 to moderate commercial success. The band rose to prominence with the release of their second album, Some Nights, in 2012.
