Parkes was born in Belfast on 29 January 1960. [1]He started playing in Raffrey Pipe Band at the age of 9, and received tuition from Sandy Cummings. After taking a break of a few months, he returned to the band in 1971, by which time Raffrey had merged with Field Marshal Montgomery to become Freymont, in Grade 3.
In 2004, Pipe Major Richard Parkes suffered a stroke, and the band was led by Alastair Dunn until Richard recovered and led the band to win the last three majors of the season. [1] Parkes was awarded an MBE in the 2004 Birthday Honours for services to pipe band music in Northern Ireland. [1] [6]

Venice, Ducal Palace with a Religious Procession is an 1828 cityscape painting by the British artist Richard Parkes Bonington. [1] Bonington visited Venice in Spring 1826 and the trip inspired him to produce a number of works up to his death in 1828. It is the largest known painting he produced. [2]
