On 26 July 2016, [3] the government of Bangladesh enacted a regulation in the National Assembly to set up the university on a 50-acre site adjoining to Bangabandhu Hi-Tech Park in Kaliakair, Gazipur District. [4] Instruction began with the 2018–2019 academic year, for which 100 students were offered admission. [5]
The university has over 14,000 students, both national and international, and is one of Bangladesh's top private universities. [5] [6] It is the first university in Bangladesh to launch deep-sky imaging telescopes. [3] [7] [8]
The university runs its own regular bus service to and from the city to facilitate frequent commuting of the students residing there. Friday and Saturday are weekly holidays. The university own single and doubled-decker buses as well as microbuses to facilitate transport of students, staff and faculty members.

Every year, around 700 students enroll in undergraduate programs to study engineering and architecture. In the undergraduate admission test, only about the top 5% of students, out of approximately 14,000 selected candidates, can get admitted. There are around 300 or more teachers.
