The game is broken up into four storylines: the Saiyan Saga, the Frieza Saga, the Cell Saga (where the player acquires their hover car), and the Buu Saga. Bonus storylines can be purchased as downloadable content; including a retelling of the Battle of Gods and the Resurrection 'F' storylines seen in Dragon Ball Super.
Players can battle with a basic or mêlée combat system. The two meters on the top left hand corner represent health and ki, while the on right represent zeni just collected. The game has two styles of gameplay to work with. The Adventure Mode retells the events within both the Red Ribbon Army and early Demon King Piccolo story arcs.
As with other MMORPGs, players control a character avatar, which will be viewing the HUD from a third-person perspective, within a persistent game world, where they will be able to explore the landscape, search for the Dragon Balls, train to compete in the Tenkaichi Budokai, aspiring to become like the warriors of legend, as well as interact with NPCs and other players.
