On September 16, 1925, live music and speech was broadcast by way of telephone from the hotel's ballroom to Denver radio station KOA. [4] In 1942, the hotel was leased to the United States Navy for use as a hospital. The U.S. Naval Convalescent Hospital was commissioned on July 5, 1943 and served over 6,500 patients by the end of 1945.
These springs are fed into seventeen soaking pools, which range from 98 to 108 degrees F. The thermal water also heats the sidewalks and the resort buildings. [ 2 ] In November 2020, the owners of Iron Mountain Hot Springs proposed an expansion of the resort, subject to city approval. [ 3 ]

The 22-story, 231-room tower directly across Tremont Place was built as a new wing of the hotel in 1959, known as the Brown Palace West. [10] For many years it operated as a budget wing of the hotel, until the Brown Palace's owners branded the guest rooms in the annex as a Comfort Inn in 1988, and then as a Holiday Inn Express in December 2014.
