Sirmione (Brescian: Sirmiù; Venetian: Sirmion) is a comune in the province of Brescia, in Lombardy (northern Italy). It is bounded by Desenzano del Garda ( Lombardy ) and Peschiera del Garda in the province of Verona and the region of Veneto .

The Scaligero Castle is a fortress from the Scaliger era, access point to the historical center of Sirmione, on Lake Garda. It's one of Italy's best preserved castles. [1] In 2019 it was the 22nd most visited attraction in Italy, with 308,459 visitors. [2]
Today, it is the most valuable testament of the Roman period in Sirmione's territory and an exceptional find of a Roman villa in northern Italy. The site, which includes the archaeological museum of Sirmione, was the twenty-seventh most visited Italian site in 2013, with 215,961 visitors and a total gross income of €504,700.

Sirmio is a promontory at the southern end of Lake Garda, [1] projecting 3.3 kilometers (2.1 mi) into the lake.It is celebrated in connection with the Roman poet Catullus, as the large ruins of a Roman villa known as the Grottoes of Catullus on the promontory have been supposed to be his country house.

Desenzano del Garda-Sirmione station (Italian: Stazione di Desenzano del Garda-Sirmione) is a railway station serving the town and comune of Desenzano del Garda, in the region of Lombardy, northern Italy. Opened in 1854, it forms part of the Milan–Venice railway. The station is currently managed by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI).
