Bridgeville, California (population 25) was the first town to be sold on eBay in 2002, and has been up for sale three times since. [1] In January 2003, Thatch Cay, the last privately held and undeveloped U.S. Virgin Island, was listed for auction by Idealight International. The minimum bid was US$3 million and the sale closed January 16, 2003. [2]
A portion of the $14 million renovation was devoted to moving the museum, with support from the National Park Service, the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, and museum owner Ed Zelinsky. [1] The museum's move sparked protests by San Francisco locals. An online petition was created opposing it, with over 12,000 signatures.
Tuck then made the decision to turn the building into a museum dedicated to fun. After eight years of design work and construction, Playland-Not-At-The-Beach opened on May 31, 2008. Playland-Not-At-The-Beach was featured on the local San Francisco television show Eye on the Bay on November 23, 2009. [4]
