Ganglion cysts have been found to recur following surgery in 12% [29] to 41% [30] of patients. A six-year outcome study of the treatment of ganglion cysts on the dorsal wrist compared excision, aspiration, and no treatment. Neither excision nor aspiration provided long-term benefit better than no treatment.
The traumatic bone cyst, also referred to as a simple bone cyst or hemorrhagic cyst, is a pseudocyst that most commonly affects the mandible of young individuals. It is a benign empty or fluid-containing cavity within the mandible body that does not have evidence of a true epithelial lining.
Tenosynovial giant cell tumor (TGCT) is a non-malignant tumor defined histologically as inclusions of “osteoclast-like” multinucleated giant cells, hemosiderin, and macrophages. [1] This histology can present one of 2 clinically distinct ways. TGCT tumors often develop from the lining of joints (also known as synovial tissue).
Giant-cell tumor of the bone (GCTOB), is a relatively uncommon bone tumor. It is characterized by the presence of multinucleated giant cells (osteoclast-like cells). Malignancy in giant-cell tumor is uncommon and occurs in about 2% of all cases. However, if malignant degeneration does occur, it is likely to metastasize to the lungs.
This article could use some more description, such as answering whether these cysts are hard or soft and whether they are painful. I have something that looks very much like the cysyts shown in the accompanying photos but it's hard, which I would not expect from something filled with fluid, and it doesn't hurt (my instinct is that it's a bone spur).
The removal of a ganglion cyst usually requires a ganglionectomy. Such cysts usually form on the hand, foot or wrist and may cause pain or impair body function. Aspiration of the cyst and steroid injections are typically performed first. If they fail, the cyst is excised under local, regional or even general anesthetic.
About 2% of women will have a Bartholin's cyst at some point in their lifetime. Bartholin's cysts are fluid-filled lumps near the vaginal opening. Here's what women need to know about them.
Tarlov cysts are most commonly located in the S1 to S4/S5 region of the spinal canal, but can be found along any region of the spine. They usually form on the extradural components of sacrococcygeal nerve roots at the junction of dorsal root ganglion and posterior nerve roots and arise between the endoneurium and perineurium.
