It served as a product distribution center and mail order facility for Sears, Roebuck & Company, with a retail store on the ground floor.
The Sears, Roebuck and Company Complex is a building complex in the community area of North Lawndale in Chicago, Illinois. The complex hosted most of department-store chain Sears ' mail order operations between 1906 and 1993, and it also served as Sears' corporate headquarters until 1973, when the Sears Tower was completed.
At the time the store was notable for its size, and for its 300 car rooftop parking lot. In 1975, the Wisconsin Avenue elevation was altered for the Tenleytown–AU (WMATA station) . In the 1990s, Sears abandoned its retail operation at the location, and the building was used by Hechinger hardware until its demise in the late 1990s. [ 2 ]
