The Albemarle–Kenmore Terraces Historic District is a small historic district located in the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City.It consists of two short cul-de-sacs, Albemarle Terrace and Kenmore Terrace, off of East 21st Street, and the 32 houses on the two streets, [4] as well as a four-family apartment building at the end of Albemarle Terrace.
The first major event held in the building after renovation was the 13th annual conference of the Preservation League of New York State, on April 18, 1986. [7] In May 2008 a new nightclub was proposed for the Kenmore. The nightclub, called The Terrace Lounge at The Kenmore, was to be on the ground floor and not in the two story former Rain-bo Room.
In 1933, [2] 45 E. 18th St., the German-American Lohdens, [2] bought the bar, changing the name to the Old Town Bar, and the neon sign was erected, in 1937. [1] After the end of Prohibition and the closing of the nearby 18th Street Subway station on 8 November 1948, the bar began to fall into disrepair.
