The FINA Water Polo World League was an international water polo league organized by FINA, which played annually, typically from winter through to June. [1] League play featured continental tournaments for men and women, from which the top teams emerged to play in the championship tournament (the "Super Final") where the league champion team is crowned.

The 2002 FINA Men's Water Polo World League was the first edition of the annual event, organised by the world's governing body in aquatics, the FINA. After two preliminary rounds the Super Final was held in Patras, Greece from August 1 to August 4, 2002.

After participating in a preliminary round, eight teams qualify to play in a final tournament, called the Super Final from 18–23 June 2018. [1] The top two teams also automatically qualify for the 2019 FINA World Aquatics Championships in 2019. In the world league, there are specific rules that do not allow matches to end in a draw.
