Marquess of Winchester is a title in the Peerage of England that was created in 1551 for the prominent statesman William Paulet, 1st Earl of Wiltshire. It is the oldest of six surviving English marquessates; therefore its holder is considered the premier marquess of England.

Arms of Paulet. Richard Charles Paulet, 17th Marquess of Winchester (8 July 1905 – 5 March 1968), was an English peer. [1] He was born in London, the only son of Maj. Charles Standish Paulet MVO and Lillian Jane Charlotte Fosbery. His father was the grandson of Lord Charles Paulet, a younger son of the 13th Marquess. [2]
Jane Paulet née Savage, Marchioness of Winchester (before 26 May 1607 – 15 April 1631) was an English aristocrat, and her death was the subject of several poems. [1]She was the eldest daughter of Thomas Savage, 1st Viscount Savage of Rocksavage and Elizabeth Darcy, baptised at Isleworth on 26 May 1607.
Charles Paulet, 13th Marquess of Winchester (1764–1843) Lady Urania Anne Paulet (27 January 1766 [5] – 27 December 1843), who married first on 17 March 1785 Henry de Burgh, 1st Marquess of Clanricarde (d. 1797). After his death, she married Col. Peter Kington (d. 1807) on 28 October 1799, with whom she had issue.
Paulet was succeeded, by his eldest son, Charles Paulet, as 6th Marquess of Winchester, later created 1st Duke of Bolton. Charles converted to the Church of England, a great blow to the Roman Catholic community of Hampshire, who had for many years looked to the Paulet family to shield them from the worst rigours of the Penal Laws.
