Maps are useful in presenting key facts within a geographical context and enabling a descriptive overview of a complex concept to be accessed easily and quickly. WikiProject Maps encourages the creation of free maps and their upload on Wikimedia Commons. On the project's pages can be found advice, tools, links to resources, and map conventions.
This category and its subcategories are for articles about, and images of, particular geographically based maps. For other types of maps, such as mathematical mappings, please use another category, such as Category:Technical drawing or Category:Diagrams. For genealogical maps see: Category:Family trees.
In creating geographical maps for Wikipedia, it is often useful to have high-quality source material such as blank outline maps, Adobe Photoshop or GIMP-format images with layers, SVG files and so on. If you have such source material that you think may be helpful to other map authors, please feel free to upload it to Wikipedia and list it here.
We can start from pre-existing SVG maps, some samples, with the links below (in Commons) where you can find many others, this (due to the indexation deficits inherent in the large number of existing files) it is better to do a search from the Search Wikimedia Commons input:
