Since black cows sell the best around here, as they seem to everywhere right now, I have been looking into good black breeds. The Simangus breed is one that I am really leaning towards but I don't know alot about them.

  3. Where to sell registered black angus - Homesteading Forum

    www.homesteadingtoday.com/threads/where-to-sell-registered...

Registered Angus cattle will not necessarily grade out carcass as Certified Angus. Registered Angus cattle at an auction that aren't black enough, won't sell for as high a premium, graded out the same, as just black cattle. My cattle are mostly Angus, with some Simmental and some Brahma and some Tarentaise mixed in genetically. They are ...

We were going to keep him as a breeder but our grass ran short and a bull was a luxury. The beef is good. The bull was medium brown in color and shaggy but not as shaggy as a pure Highland. He had no horns like the Angus and was ...

Pure Angus steers didn't fatten and finish as well on grass as the Dangus. Angus weighed 1200# at market age while the Dangus weighed 900-1000#. The Dangus graded higher, though, and he always put pure Dexter or Dangus in his freezer. His Dexter bull passed on and he switched to a Devon bull.

  7. Hereford vs Angus - Homesteading Forum

Our beef in is moderately marbled. My herefors is a good mom, but the angus puts more into the calf. After the winter the hereford looks great, but the angus are a little thin. However the angus calves are much larger. Angus have higher dress out percentages. Herefords have much thicker hides and biggger heads.

  9. Average mature weight of a Black Angus | Homesteading Forum

If actual weight, I would venture they are 6 or 7 months old. That said, a mature angus heiffer could weigh anywhere from 800 to 1400 lbs,,,depending on breeding and condition. * I'm supposed to respect my elders, but its getting harder and harder for me to find one. .*-. :cowboy:

The best vigour you will get, is to take a F1 cross (say Hereford x Angus) and breed those cows to an unrelated breed (say Charolais or Simmental). Ideally, the best way to do it, is to keep purebreds of 2 ...
