Mark Ryan (2 March 1959 [1] – 31 January 2011) [2] [3] was an English guitarist who played in different punk bands during the late 1970s. He was born in Tottenham, London, [1] [4] to an Irish Catholic family. His father was a university lecturer and his mother was a nurse and midwife.

"Deutscher Girls" was written by Adam Ant and was an early favourite among fans of the band. [citation needed] The song was first recorded in August 1977 at Free Range Studios with Mark Ryan on guitar; this version appears in the film Jubilee (in the scene depicted on the single sleeve).

There are two versions of the cover. The first has Adam and the Ants across the top of the sleeve and the later version just Adam Ant. This is probably due to the confusion around the timing of Ant going solo, particularly as the song was performed by three fifths of the band: Ant, Pirroni and Hughes.
Adam's line-up of Ants on the single include his new songwriting partner Marco Pirroni on guitar, bass guitar and backing vocals, and Terry 1 & 2 on drums. Terry 1 & 2 is a pseudonym for Jon Moss who went on to superstardom years later as a member of Culture Club. The song also marks the first time Adam and Pirroni worked together. [3]
