The Queensland school system is based around Queensland state schools, independent schools and catholic schools. [1] Schooling in Queensland begins with a preparatory year (Prep) followed by 12 years of study. Primary schools teach Prep through to Year 6, while high school or secondary school is from Year 7 to 12.
The school is one of three state high schools for highly capable students in Queensland; the others are the Queensland Academy for Creative Industries and Queensland Academy for Health Sciences. In 2024, Better Education ranked Queensland Academy for Science Mathematics & Technology 3rd in the state of Queensland based on ATAR 90+ results. [3]

On 25 February 2019, Bentley Park College launched a $1.65 million sport hall upgrade, funded under the Queensland Government's $200 million Advancing Schools initiative, an external covered multi-purpose court, new louvre systems, covered entrances, and a new kinesiology laboratory, with space for a full class of students, laptops and a fully equipped gym.
