Many of these early commercial buildings were replaced during the late nineteenth century. The focal point of the district, the La Porte County Courthouse, was constructed between 1890 and 1894. The LaPorte County Courthouse is a historic county courthouse in La Porte, Indiana, the county seat of LaPorte County. Previous courthouses were built on this site on 1833, and the second 1847-1848. The current courthouse was designed by Brentwood S. Tolan and built from 1892 to 1894.
The 9th Regiment organized and mustered into service at Indianapolis, 25 April 1861, for three months service. At the end of the three months service, the 9th returned and went into rendezvous at Camp Colfax, under the command of Col. Robert H. Milroy.
