Valdosta State University (VSU or Valdosta State) is a public university in Valdosta, Georgia, United States, and is one of the four comprehensive universities in the University System of Georgia. As of 2019 [update] , VSU had over 12,000 undergraduate and graduate students. [ 2 ]
The 40-acre (160,000 m 2) north campus of VSU was the former home of Emory Junior College, a two-year institution which opened in 1928. [2] Enrollment was low in the 1930s during the Great Depression and the United States entry into World War II depleted the school's enrollment to the point that Emory Junior College had to close during the duration of the War.
The flagship campus is the most prestigious or the one with the largest student population, e.g. the University of Maryland, College Park campus in the University System of Maryland, the Indiana University Bloomington campus in the Indiana University System, and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville campus in the University of Tennessee System.

The 2024 Valdosta State Blazers football team represented Valdosta State University as a member of the Gulf South Conference (GSC) during the 2024 NCAA Division II football season. In their third year under head coach Tremaine Jackson , the team compiled a 13–1 record (6–0 in conference games) and won the GSC championship.
Named for Dr. Jere M. Pound, the second president of the University, Pound Hall was originally the main building for Emory Junior College, a private all male school that operated from 1928 to 1953. The property was purchased by Valdosta State when the school closed. [5] It was remodeled in 1974 to house the School of Business Administration.
