Burlington is a city in Alamance and Guilford counties in the U.S. state of North Carolina.It is the principal city of the Burlington, NC Metropolitan Statistical Area, which encompasses all of Alamance County, in which most of the city is located, and is a part of the Greensboro–Winston-Salem–High Point, NC Combined Statistical Area.
Alamance Regional Medical Center roots began in 1916 with the opening of Rainey Hospital at 1308 Rainey Street in East Burlington. This hospital was renamed Alamance General Hospital, Inc., in 1937. [2] Rainey Hospital was the primary hospital in the area until Alamance County Hospital opened at 319 North Graham-Hopedale Road.

In 1971 Governor Robert W. Scott donated 48 acres (190,000 m 2) of land to the college, which was used to build a new campus, completed in 1976. [1] In 1977 the college purchased the former Glenhope School in Burlington, renovated it, and renamed it the Burlington Campus of the Technical Institute of Technology.

In July 2007, the North Carolina General Assembly allocated planning funds for the new James B. Hunt Jr. Library to be built on Centennial Campus. The official groundbreaking took place on October 26, 2009, and the collections of the Burlington Textiles Library and certain main library materials were moved into the new library in mid-December 2012.
