The Hotel Habana Riviera by Iberostar, originally known as the Havana Riviera, is a historic resort hotel located on the Malecón waterfront boulevard in the Vedado district of Havana, Cuba. Iberostar Hotels and Resorts owned the accommodation service for the company while Grupo Receptor owned travel agencies and Grupo Emisor owned tour operators, a cruise line, retail travel agencies and airlines. [2] In 2006 the owner of Grupo Iberostar, Miguel Fluxà, decided to sell Grupo Receptor and Grupo Emisor, while keeping Iberostar Hotels.
In January 2005, Fluxà joined the family business, Iberostar Group. The hotel originally opened in 1976 as the Hotel Meridien Copacabana, later Le Méridien Copacabana. In 2007, Starwood sold the building to Iberostar Hotels & Resorts , which closed the hotel and started a renovation of the building in the same year, which was eventually abandoned in 2008.
