The Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) is a tertiary level government hospital in the Philippines with an authorized bed capacity of seven hundred (700). [1] It is located along Q. Abeto Street, Mandurriao , Iloilo City , Iloilo .
Western Visayas Sanitarium and General Hospital was established in June 1927 as a treatment station for leprosy patients. On May 30, 2005, through Administrative Order 2005-0013, WVS expanded its services from a leprosarium to a general hospital, providing five major services: Medical, Surgical, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Family Medicine, and Pediatrics.
On July 3, 1984, it was reclassified into a regional hospital by virtue of Ministry of Health Administrative Order No. 95 and was renamed Western Visayas Regional Hospital. The name of the hospital was further changed to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital as it appeared in the General Appropriation Act of 1985.
During the onslaught of COVID 2019 global pandemic, WVSU Medical Center and Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) as government hospitals had been designated by the Department of Health (Philippines) as COVID 2019 dedicated hospitals for Western Visayas region. WVMC is the sole COVID 2019 sub-national laboratory in Region 6.
