The Isle of Man Act 1958 (6 & 7 Eliz. 2.c. 11) restated the Common Purse Agreement between the United Kingdom and the Isle of Man.. It also ended control by the UK Treasury over Manx finances, and granted Tynwald powers to legislate with regard to customs, harbours, loans, mines, the police and the civil service.
The letters I, Q, S and Z are not used on Manx number plates. Additionally the letter A is also not used as the initial letter and the letter O is not used as the final letter. The Isle of Man uses retro-reflective number plates with black letters; on a white background on the front of the vehicle, and yellow on the rear.
