The Lakshmi Vilas Palace (Gujarati: લક્ષ્મી વિલાસ મહેલ) in Vadodara, Gujarat, India, was constructed in 1890 by the Gaekwad family, a prominent Maratha family, who ruled the Baroda State. Major Charles Mant was credited to be the main architect of the palace.
The building was constructed as a school for the Maharaja's children. Today a large number of works of art belonging to the Maratha royal family are displayed in the museum. The museum contains works of art collected by Maharaja Sir Sayajirao Gaekwad III during his numerous trips out of India.
Till recently, it housed the royal family heirlooms. It had solid gold and silver guns, each barrel weighing over 100 kg.
