Fundy Albert was established on January 1, 2023 by New Brunswick regulation 2022-50, the Local Governments Establishment Regulation of the Local Governance act, through the amalgamation of the village municipalities of Alma, Riverside-Albert and Hillsborough while at the same time annexing certain mostly adjacent unincorporated areas.

Here, it is inundated with tidal water from the Salisbury Bay (Chignecto Bay) a kilometer to the site of a former dam, making for a large estuary and inter-tidal zone.
The local improvement district became a village in 1966 under the new Municipalities Act. [9] [10] On 1 January 2023, the village of Riverside-Albert amalgamated with the villages of Alma and Hillsborough and parts of eight local service districts to form the new village of Fundy Albert. [11] [3] The community's name remains in official use. [12]

Albert County (2016 population 29,158) [1] is New Brunswick's third-youngest county, located on the Western side of the Petitcodiac River on the Chignecto Bay in the Bay of Fundy; the shire town is Hopewell Cape. The county was established in 1845 from parts of Westmorland County and Saint John County, and named after Prince Albert. [2]
