The Calypso was a cruise liner owned by Louis Cruises, and was under charter to Thomson Cruises, part of TUI Travel at one time. Earlier names of the ship were Canguro Verde, Durr, Ionian Harmony, Sun Fiesta, Regent Jewel, and Calypso In April 2013, it was beached in Alang, India, for scrapping.
Kaiso is a type of music popular in Trinidad and Tobago, and other countries, especially of the Caribbean, such as Grenada, Belize, Barbados, St. Lucia and Dominica, which originated in West Africa particularly among the Efik and Ibibio people of Nigeria, and later evolved into calypso music.
Calypso, with its satirical and socio-political lyrics, was developed in the 18th century as a fusion of African and French music styles. It eventually accompanied the rise of steelpan music. Steelpan were imported to Saint Vincent quickly. Calypso's political lyrics have continued to be an important part of the genre.

"Run Joe" is a calypso song written by Joe Willoughby, Louis Jordan, and Walt Merrick. It was performed by Louis Jordan and his Tympany Five with vocal chorus by The Calypso Boys. It was recorded in April 1947 and released on the Decca label (catalog no. 24448-A). [ 1 ]

Roaring Lion (22 February 1908 – 11 July 1999) [2] was a Trinidadian calypsonian (calypso singer/composer). His 65-year career began in the early 1930s and he is best known for his compositions "Ugly Woman" (1933), " Mary Ann " and "Netty, Netty", which are still performed today.
