Mount McDowell (O'odham: S-wegĭ Doʼag, Yavapai: Wi:kawatha), more commonly referred to as Red Mountain, is located on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Reservation, just north of Mesa, Arizona. It is named after General Irvin McDowell, a Union officer in the Civil War. Its elevation is 2,832 feet (863 m).
A spur of the byway follows Main Street / U.S. 160 east from Cortez to the entrance of Mesa Verde National Park, a U.S. national park preserving over 4000 archaeological sites - including 600 cliff dwellings - of the Ancestral Pueblo people. Golden Gate Barrio was a historic Mexican-American neighborhood in the Eastside of Phoenix, Arizona. The neighborhood was razed due to eminent domain for the expansion of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in the 1970s and 1990s through the West Approach Land Acquisition Project.
