The initial section went from Cinco Pontas in Recife to Cabo, in the state of Pernambuco, over a length of 31.5 kilometers, on a broad gauge (1.60 meters). [3] In 1901, the Great Western of Brasil Railway Company, an English company, acquired the concession from EFRSF and other rail companies operating in Pernambuco. [4]
The port was designed by the then Governor Francisco de Moura. Its name originates from Suape beach, the most southern beach of Cabo de Santo Agostinho.However, the port is in the municipality of Ipojuca.
Since June 1, 2001, through the accord delegation n. 02/2001, the responsibility of the administration and operation of the port has been held by the state government of Pernambuco through the new company Porto de Recife S.A. Historically, the port was the main reason of the foundation of the village of Recife in the 16th century. [1]
