Malappuram (also Malapuram) (Malayalam: [mɐlɐpːurɐm] ⓘ) [8] is a City in Kerala and the headquarters of the Malappuram district in Kerala, India.It is the 4th largest urban agglomeration in Kerala and the 20th largest in India, spread over an area of 158.20 km 2 (61.08 sq mi) including the surrounding suburban areas.
The city is administered by the Malappuram Municipality, headed by a Municipal Chairman. For administrative purposes, the city is divided into 40 wards, from which the members of the municipal council are elected for five years.
